Speas Fish Hatchery The site is nestled along the North Platte River near the historic Bessemer Bend amongst the red bluffs of the Coal Mountain foothills. The project continues earlier additions of production buildings on the site with a fish incubator production building and feed storage shed along with the latest in water filtration technology to purify the production system's spring-fed waters along with electrical redundancy and water bypass to protect the fish stock in the event of power failure. The natural spring waters, their seasonal flows and elevations dictated the location of the structure, which in turn included the challenge of mitigating collapsing soils at the site prior to construction. Also included is a small public fishing pond – Jessica's Pond - downstream from the facility made possible by diverting effluent water from the hatchery. The site is ADA accessible and includes a fishing platform.
